The sector features a mix of traditional and modern energy sources, with natural gas emerging as particularly significant due to substantial offshore and onshore reserves that position Tanzania as a potential regional energy exporter. Government-led reforms and strategic investments—such as the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project and rural electrification initiatives—are aimed at enhancing power generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure while fostering private sector involvement.
